Double win for Macclesfield

Macclesfield Junior Band has clocked up even more success of late.

Macclesfield Junior Brass Band has added to its successes at the Newcastle-under-Lyme Music, Speech and Drama Festival by winning the under 15’s and the overall youth ensemble titles last weekend.

Retained title

The 38 players of the junior band made the journey to Newcastle-under-Lyme in defence of their title as the under 15’s champions and their excellent performance of “A Medieval Suite” secured the title for a second year and a won them a place in the grand final.

Who can ask for more when we have people like our percussionist who played one armed due to a broken collar bone?MD, Cheryl Slamon

Outstanding

The final included groups up to the age of 19 so it was always going to be a tough challenge for this band with an average age of 11. The second performance was outstanding and to the delight of all band members, won them the overall youth ensemble title.

Dedicated

Musical Director Cheryl Slamon told 4BR: "The players put everything they had into both performances on the day and I am extremely proud of their achievements. It is a real pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic and dedicated group of young people. Who can ask for more when we have people like our percussionist who played one armed due to a broken collar bone?"
