Mears closes the door

Jason Mears has announced that he is taking a break from conducting, and has resigned as Musical Director of Darebin City Brass – Preston Band.

Jason Mears

Jason was Musical Director of Preston Band for approximately 4 years. During this time, the band attended numerous local and National competitions, as well as a trip overseas to compete in the New Zealand Championships.

He has also conducted the band at various local and country gigs, including the popular Darebin City Brass cabarets.

Health Issues

When talking with 4BRDU, Jason said the decision was made to take a break from the stress and hard work of taking an A Grade Brass Band due to a number of factors, the main one being that he has some health issues, and will need to take some time to concentrate on getting his health back on track.

Continue to play

He will still continue to play principal cornet for Darebin’s second band, Northern Brass and will help out at Geelong West Brass Band when he can.

Geelong West is where Jason first started playing and has had a long association with the band.

Sarah resigns

His wife, Sarah Mears, who was Secretary of Darebin City Brass and a percussion player with Preston, has also resigned.

Both Jason and Sarah wish Darebin City Brass every success for the future and hope to remain in contact with the friends that they have made there.
