FABB adjudicators

The three adjudicators for the inaugural Australasian Open have been released.

Federation of Australasian Brass Bands
 

Steve Bastable, Barrie Gott, and Kenneth Young have confirmed their availability and will be the adjudicators for the Australasian Open, being held at Cooloongatta, Queensland, 25 & 26 October, 2008.

The Best

An initiative of the Federation of Australasian Brass Bands (FABB), the Australasian Open is a Brass Band competition for the best bands and bandsmen and women from Australia, New Zealand and throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Prize Money

Each of the invited bands will be competing for $10,000 in prize money and the titles, Australasian Open Champion, and Australasian Entertainment Champion.

The Bands

To date, nine bands have confirmed their intention to attend with another possible two bands to confirm within the coming weeks. Bands playing at the 2008 Australasian Open include:
• Brisbane Brass — Australia
• Brisbane Excelsior — Australia
• Footscray Yarraville City Band — Australia
• K & N Spring Gully Brass — Australia
• NZ Community Trust Woolston Band — New Zealand
• St. Kilda Brass – New Zealand
• St. Mary’s – Australia
• Waitakere City Brass – New Zealand
• Waratah Brass – Australia

The test selection is due for release in July.

NBCA & BBANZ Support

FABB was formed in 2007 as a catalyst for developing more formal links embracing brass bands within the Southern Hemisphere, and is a private company that has the collaborative support of both the National Band Council of Australia (NBCA) and the Brass Bands Association of New Zealand (BBANZ).

Players Register Now

Players are urged to register online as soon as possible at www.fabb.com.au/registration.html, in order to assist with the smooth operation of the registration process and the issuing of identification tags/cards.

Cambrian Brass

May 16 • We're always happy to hear from anyone interested in joining a friendly and supportive band, whether you're returning to banding or looking for a new challenge.


Delph Band

May 15 • We are seeking an enthusiastic and musically skilled Associate Conductor to lead and develop our band alongside our current Musical Director Phil Goodwin. . Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 8-10pm at Delph Band Club.


Tintwistle Band

May 15 • We have a vacancy for a soprano cornet, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up we would love to get this seat filled!. We rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom in Tintwistle, under the baton of our superb MD, Jim Henson.
