Awards at Ipswich

After a succesful year, Ipswich & Norwich Co-op Band has been dishing out the awards.

Following a busy and successful year for the band, Ipswich and Norwich Co-op Band held their Patrons Concert on 25th April, presenting some of the highlights of the band’s current repertoire.

Succesful year

The concert came at the end of a year in which, as well as carrying out the usual busy programme of engagements, the band has had great success in the contest arena, with a 4th place at the Mineworkers Open at Butlins in January, and a 2nd place at the L&SC area in March, promoting the band back to the Championship Section and winning a place at Harrogate in September.

Highlight

Highlight of the concert season was a programme of Malcolm Arnold’s music, presented in the composer’s home town of Attleborough. Such was the success of this event that the Arnold estate has asked the band to present this programme again at a major festival of Arnold’s music in 2009.

Awards

After a year of such hard work, awards were presented to Paul Varney as “Bandsperson of the Year”, Lisa Hodge, one of the youngest members of the band as “Most improved Player” and Principal cornet Georgiana Hawkes as “Player of the Year”.
