Kippax return with confidence

The Kippax Band has returned to the concert fold with renewed confidence.

Kippax

Last Sunday saw the return of the Kippax Band playing at the Kippax Band Club.

This was the first official concert for the band under their recently appointed Musical Director David Horn.

Mixture

David chose a mixture of new and established music, all of which demonstrated the their new found confidence and enthusiasm. The concert featured principal cornet Nigel Darbyshire and a duet from solo euphonium Colin Moss and flugel Sam Spedding. All the music on offer was well received by the capacity audience.

The band dedicated the concert to the memory of Keith Wardle who sadly passed away in May of this year at the age of 50Kippax Band

Dedicated

The band dedicated the concert to the memory of Keith Wardle who sadly passed away in May of this year at the age of 50.

During a speech by Colin Moss the bands Chairman, Keith was acknowledged as the most successful conductor of the Kippax Band on the contest stage, and a hugely popular figure within the organisation as a whole.

The band remembered Keith by playing two of his own arrangements and another by his brother Mark. Mark Wardle and members of his family as well as friends of Keith were in the audience.

New signing

David Jackson told 4BR: "The concert was also the first with the Kippax Band for our new signing on cornet. Bob Walker who has joined after a spell conducting the Horbury Victoria Band and we are now fortunate that he is sharing his wealth of experience and enjoying his music making on the back line cornet section here at Kippax."
