Cornish Youth gains recognition

The Cornish Youth Brass Band has been recognised for its musical exploits and more besides within its own County.

The Cornish Gorsedd has announced that The Cornwall Youth Brass Band has been awarded The Weryson Menestrouthy Brest, The Brass Band Trophy, its Annual Award for distinctive service to the Brass Band movement in the County.

Challenging

The Award was made in recognition of the Band’s work in challenging the musical horizons of its young musicians and in exposing them to the experience and skills of the most prominent Conductors in the Brass Band World through their regular Residential Courses. These Courses encourage discipline, independence, and learning and provide an opportunity for the musicians to make new friends amongst the brass bands of the County.

Enthusiasm

The Award recognizes not only the commitment of the playing members, but also the enthusiasm and dedication of the local Tutors, many of them former players in the Band, who give their time to conduct the monthly rehearsals.

The Cornish Gorsedd exists to maintain and express the national Celtic spirit of Cornwall and to foster Cornish music, art and literature. Their Annual Open Gorsedd, to which all are invited, will be held at the Barbican Sports Field in Looe on Saturday September 6th at 2-30pm, when the Trophy will be presented to the Band and received by its Music Co-ordinator, Brian Minear.
