The Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Band has appointed David Lancaster as their newly appointed resident conductor.

Stiff opposition

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "David beat off stiff competition as conductors from all across the British Isles were auditioned over many weeks, and his appointment comes after an overwhelming vote from the band members and he brings to the band great musical knowledge and experience and a drive to succeed at the highest level."

The band extends a warm welcome to David and is looking forward to working with him and Richard Evans, an exciting combination for successYorkshire Imps

Innovation

David had been Musical Director of Harrogate Band for many years and steered them to many contest successes, gaining a reputation for musical excellence and innovation along the way. David will conduct Harrogate Band in his final engagement at the Kippax Entertainment Final in early November.

First task

David's first task is preparing Imps for the forthcoming Scottish Open Contest at the end of November, where the band has set it's stall out to improve on last year’s 4th place.

The spokesperson added: "The band extends a warm welcome to David and is looking forward to working with him and Richard Evans, an exciting combination for success."
