Brass Band Rijnmond claim second National title and book place for Ostend in 2009.

The busy weekend of brass banding on the European continent continued with the Dutch Nationals taking place on Saturday 29th.

Close double

Victory in Championship Division went to Brassband Rijnmond conducted by Ivan Meylemans, who very nearly made it a double National triumph in both Belgium and Holland as he also led Noordlimburgse Brassband to the runner up spot in Brussels the next day.

Second National

Rijnmond’s victory on the test piece, ‘Concerto Grosso’ by Derek Bourgeois not only gave them their second National title in their history (their first was in 2004), but also saw them gained the all important qualification place at Netherlands representative at the European Championships in Ostend in 2009.

Seventh place

Reigning champion, Brass Band Waldsang, who were looking to claim a hat trick of wins this year had to be content with 7th place in the eight band field of contenders.

First Division

De Spijkerpakkenband, conducted by Thijs Oud, gained a narrow one point win in the First Division on the set work, ‘Essence of Time’ by Peter Graham, whilst De Lofklank, conducted by Marco Middelberg, took the Second Division honours with their performance of ‘Haakon the Good’.

Third Division

The Third Division title was won by Koperensemble De Wâldsang, directed by Bienze Ijlstra with their performance of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, whilst the Fourth Division honours went to Hallaluja conducted by Ido-Gerard Kempenaar on the set work, ‘The Legend of the Cloack by Rob Goorhuis.
