Cobham reflections

It has been a busy 12 months for the Cobham Band — starting and ending by finding a new home...

The Cobham Band has been reflecting on the past 12 months.

At their final rehearsal they looked back on 2008 — a somewhat historic one for the band. At the beginning of the year the band faced uncertainty with the need to find a new band room after 60 years.

Success

Contest success came at the Spring SCABA Contest fater coming 11th at the Regionals and in May they performed with Gareth Bimson, Principal Trumpet of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Concert

In October the band had a 40 minute programme dedicated to it on Brooklands FM, whilst in November they performed with Ian Porthouse and his IP Brass who helped celebrate the life of Ruth Smith, a former member of The Cobham Band who sadly passed away last year in Woking Hospice.

Finally, after much searching for a new band room at the beginning of the year, the band at last found a home in the heart of Cobham Village in the Church and Church hall of St. Andrew’s!
