Cornerstone set for first outing

Cornestone Brass are getting ready to make their contesting debut at Butlins.

Cornerstone Brass

The newly formed Cornerstone Brass Band are getting ready to compete in their first contest since its formation just a few months ago, in Butlins next weekend.

Hostile Skies

Under the leadership of MD Gavin Lamplough the band made up of predominantly Salvationist players have been meeting on a monthly basis to get to grips with the demands of 'Hostile Skies' ahead of the First Section competition in Skegness.

The band has some top quality players around the stand, and an extremely talented man in the middleMatthew Ingram

Top quality players

Euphonium player Matthew Ingram told 4BR: "The band has some top quality players around the stand, and an extremely talented man in the middle, but were still surprised and encouraged to be graded as 1st section standard by the Yorkshire area representatives."

Reaction

He added: "Expecting a low-level entry at around 3rd or 4th section, you can imagine the band's reaction to the good (?!) news, especially on hearing that they speculated over the Championship Section as a possible 'starting place'!"

The band state they hope to give a performance to build on in future months but for now are enjoying all the challenges that contesting has to offer them.
