Death of Richard Ashmore

The death of Richard Ashmore of Elland Silver Band has been announced.

 

It with deep regret that Elland Silver Band has announced the sudden death on Sunday May 31st of Richard Ashmore.

Banding life

Richard began his banding life on the cornet at the age 8 alongside his late father Alfred Ashmore in Clifton & Lightcliffe Band. He later moved onto The Lindley Band, Yorkshire Imperial Metals, then Elland Silver.

Richard was a family man, always ready to help and was a gentleman and bandsmanElland Silver

Return

He left the banding world and took up the bass guitar in the dance band Manhatten Sound where he stayed for about 20 years. Eventually making his return to brass banding and Elland Silver Band in the early nineties.

During his time as a player he played cornet,soprano cornet,euphonium and finally on to Bb Bass.

Ilnness

Sadly due to illness Richard had to give up playing some 8 years ago but still loved to have a 'Blow' on a bass every now and again but he was always considered a member of Elland Silver Band and always liked to hear stories of the band movement.

Family man

Richard was a family man, always ready to help and was a gentleman and bandsman, he will be sadly missed by his sons James and Darren and all his family and friends.

Funeral service

His funeral service takes place on Wednesday June 10 at St Chad's Church, Hove Edge, Brighouse at 1.00pm, followed by a private cremation.
