Tullis hope for Local Hero award glory

The Tullis Russell Mills organisation is looking to add to their list of 2014 successes with a bit of Local glory ahead of Cheltenham.

2014 has proved to be one of the most remarkable in the history of the Tullis Russell Mills Band organisation following their historic ‘Double’ success at the Scottish Championships in March.

Champions

Not only did the Senior and Intermediate bands come away from Perth clutching the trophies as Scottish Second and Third Section champions, but they were then treated to a civic reception from a proud Fife Council followed by the senior band representing their nation in the Challenge Section of the European Brass Band Championships.

Local Hero

The latest accolade to come their way has seen the organisation nominated in the Kingdom FM radio station ‘Local Hero’ category of the Mary Leishman Foundation Awards for services to the arts and music.

A spokesperson for the band told 4BR: "It’s just amazing. Everyone at Tullis is excited about the possibility of winning this award, as it has never been given to a brass band before. It would be another great first for the band and will just add to what has already been a fantastic year."

Hopefully it will provide our bands with another massive boost before they make the long journey south to CheltenhamTullis Russell Mills Band

Video interviews

Representatives will be invited to the awards ceremony on at the prestigious Rothes Hall later this month, with nominees already having video interviews recorded which will be projected onto massive screens before the golden envelope is opened to announce the winners.

As their spokesperson added; "Hopefully it will provide our bands with another massive boost before they make the long journey south to Cheltenham, although following the National Finals they will also compete at the Fife Championships, Scottish Challenge Cup and the Scottish Challenge Shield.

All that and our Tullis Russell Youth Band will also be taking part in the Scottish Youth Championships in November, so a really busy time for everyone at Tullis."
