Yeovil top world rankings

Yeovil Band can claim to lead the brass banding world in the altitude banner rankings...

Samuel Miller

A new world altitude record has been claimed by Yeovil Town Band after one intrepid band member recently unveiled their stand banner 18,500 feet up Mount Everest.

18,500 feet

Percussion player Samuel Miller (above) travelled to the Himalayas with a group of pupils and staff from Kingdown School in Warminster over Christmas and New Year, and the stand banner was unpacked alongside his warm socks, ice picks and crampons at Kalar Pattar, which is above Everest Base Camp at a height of 18,500 feet above sea level.

Once in a lifetime

Whilst undertaking what Samuel called, ‘a once in a lifetime experience’, he also helped to raise money for three worthy charitable causes — Dorothy House Hospice Care, Children’s Hospice South West and Louie’s S.M.I.L.E.S.

New world record

Yeovil Town Band Vice-Chairman Paul Armstrong told 4BR: “Following the challenge set by the Shepherd Group Band in April 2014, Yeovil can now boast what we believe is a new world record.

We are all very proud of Samuel and his remarkable efforts in putting the band on the attitude map!”
