President Baker heads to Washington

Brett Baker will be heading to Washington DC in the next few weeks to put his Orr in...

Baker

Brett Baker, incumbent President of the British Trombone Society has been invited to perform the Buxton Orr ‘Trombone Concerto’ in Washington DC in March with the world famous ‘Pershing’s Own’ Military Band

Great honour

The event will form part of the Eastern Trombone Workshop and Brett told 4BR: "It’s a great honour to play at the festival which is one of the international highlights in the trombonist’s calendar. I will also perform new commissions by Rob Wiffin, Howard J. Evans and Philip Sparke to an audience that may not be familiar with such composers."

Zurich

Brett will spend quite a bit of time flying to the USA in the New Year with further trips in January and May to leading American universities. He is also due to appear in Zurich in March before flying to Adelaide for the Australian National Championships.

Later this week, Brett is in the Netherlands finishing a brand new CD and DVD project.

Carbon footprint

And although conscious of his carbon footprint, Brett rather playfully thought he has come up with an idea to do his bit for green house gas emissions.

"I have an exciting year ahead regarding my solo work, but acknowledge that all this international travel cannot be seen as an environmentally friendly. I guess to compensate I will have to use a push bike to get to Black Dykes rehearsals!"
