Yorkshire Imperial DUT claimed one of the most popular summer march and hymn tune contest titles as they secured an impressive victory at Morley.

Under the direction of recently appointed MD Jack Capstaff, their performances of 'The Wizard' and 'Mid all the Traffic' secured a £675 prize pot and the Crispin Trophy, with principal cornet Alan Fowler also picking up a handy £20 bonus as 'Best Instrumentalist'.

It was the third time the band had taken title following successes in 2012 and 2014.

Delighted

On their Facebook page, Jack Capstaff said he was, "delighted with such a strong set of results"and looked forward to "continuing successes in the future."

First Section Yorkshire rivals Skelmanthorpe was runner-up, picking up the prize for 'Best Foot March' along the way to pocketing £440, whilst Second Section Marple was third, adding £180 to their coffers. Defending champion Marsden Silver was fifth.

There were section awards to Kippax, Uppermill and Tingley with Tewit Youth Band taking the Youth prize.

Enjoyed

Contest organiser Geoff Fowler told 4BR: "This was the twelfth time the competition has been held and we were grateful once more for the support of our sponsors and to the bands that took part.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope to welcome even ore bands next year."
