Blidworth Welfare Band has welcomed the arrival of talented young cornet player Corey Kohut who comes into the third cornet section.

The 13 year old has been playing since the age of 8, where he found a love of the cornet after having class lessons in primary school. He recently took his Grade 5 performance exam, passing with distinction.

Moved through ranks

Corey joins the Championship Section Midlanders from Ilkeston Brass where he moved through the ranks onto the front row.

He also plays for the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) under the baton of Lieutenant Peter Ward, and at a recent camp was awarded the prize for 'Best Cadet' and won the 'Last Post' competition. He has been the winner of the Derby Arts Festival U16 Brass solo award in 2017 and 2018.
