Brass Band Summer School announces exciting collaboration

Music hot off the press from Prima Vista Musikk will be used to test the bands in a fun way at the forthcoming Brass Band Summer School.

Prima Vista
Some of the latest music from Prima Vista Musikk will be featured on the course

The Brass Band Summer School will take place at Harrogate Ladies College between the 4th & 10th August — with Course Director Richard Evans leading a wonderful week of music making helped by a host of world class tutors.

Exciting development

This year the BBSS is delighted to announce an exciting collaboration with Prima Vista Musikk, which will see a link to one of the most popular events of the week.

The BBSS Brass in Concert sees three different bands made up of tutors and delegates get the opportunity to work together in presenting light-hearted programmes of entertaining music.

The 2019 competition however now welcomes some of the latest compositions to be featured on the course, including music by Ben Hollings, Jonathan Bates, Dan Price and Paul Lovatt-Cooper.

Hot off the press

The BBSS Brass in Contest event is organised by star horn soloist, Owen Farr who told 4BR: "This is such an exciting addition to the Summer School.

It's always such fun putting together three different 20-25 minute programmes of entertaining music, but to feature such high profile composers with music hot off the press will definitely bring a new dynamic to our course."

Another new challenge that will feature in the entertainment contest this year is the introduction of a set-work.

All three bands will get the chance to go head to head on the same piece for the first time in the school's history. The piece will be announced during the course prior to the first rehearsal.

Conducting opportunities

Owen was also keen to point out that the BBSS also provides conducting opportunities for its delegates.

Together with mentor tutors including David Childs, Nick Hudson and David Childs, Course Director Richard Evans will work alongside any budding conductors on the course, so if you're interested and would like more information please get in touch via the BBSS website: www.brassbandsummerschool.com
