Newhall hoping to build on success

The Newhall Band is hoping to build on their recent contest successes later this month.

Newhall

The Newhall Band is hoping to build on the success of the last year at contests later this month.

First prize

The band won its section at the West Midlands Association Contest at Leamington Spa last November, and gained second place at the Leicestershire Association contest at Loughborough a week later.

Player power

Individual players from the band have done well in solo, duet and quartet contests over the past this year too.

The Newhall quartet won at the Coalville Music Festival in May, with players Shiela Dixon and Jo Priestley winning the open brass duet section with fellow members Patricia and Peter Woodings a close second.

In the same month, Newhall competed in the entertainment contest hosted by Ireland Colliery at Staveley, near Chesterfield and won third prize.

Rehearsing

During the year, the band has enjoyed playing to enthusiastic audiences at many events and are currently rehearsing for the annual contests at Leamington Spa and Loughborough this month.
