The banding movement was saddened to hear of the death on the West of England Regional Championship weekend of Wesley Garner, on the 11th March. He was 78.

Great respect

A former conductor of Solent Concert and Woodfalls Band's amongst others, he was regarded with great respect and affection by all who worked with or under him during his long and very successful musical career.

He was particularly respected in the West of England area for his outstanding commitment to the banding movement, especially with Solent Concert Brass, who led to the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in 1979 and 1980.

In 1999 he led the band to the West of England Second Section title.
