Thoresby innovate with musical youth

The ever inventive Thoresby Colliery Band has been reaching out to a new audience.

Thoresby in entertainment mode

Thoresby Band recently performed to a full concert house as special guests of the King Edwin Primary School Choir.

Popular

The fifty strong ensemble performed several numbers accompanied by the band, whilst Thoresby were also able to showcase its talents whilst entertaining the audience with a range of popular numbers in a variety of musical styles.

The children particularly enjoyed seeing Simon Willis and Ian McCormick perform the euphonium duet version of the Laurel & Hardy classic ‘Another Fine Mess’ complete with comedy choreography.

The band has strong links with its local community so it seemed an opportunity not to be missed to be able work with the younger members of the community tooSimon Willis

Innovative

Simon has been instrumental in organising the innovative series of concerts with the school choir.

He told 4BR: "It’s great to work with a school with such amazing staff, in particular where music is concerned. The band has strong links with its local community so it seemed an opportunity not to be missed to be able work with the younger members of the community too!"

The concert enabled the school to raise valuable funds which will be used for providing further extracurricular activities for its pupils.
