Pemberton Old Wigan DW Band recently held its second youth workshop under conductor John Don-Duncan, designed to help the youngsters of the Pemberton Youth Band in their preparations for the upcoming Fleetwood Contest.

Full day

Assisted by members of the senior Pemberton Band, the full day of intense rehearsals and section work has given the youth band a huge boost before their contest appearance on the weekend according to John.

"We were really pleased with the progress made," he told 4BR. "The band have improved so much since April — they’re so keen and a pleasure to work with."

Tuition and teaching

The day saw senior players assist with tuition and teaching, coaching and confidence building as well as start some musical preparation for Christmas with work on rehearsing some festive music.

Hard work

Band Secretary Richard Johnson told 4BR: "We would like to thank John for his continued hard work as well the parents of the Youth Band for bringing their children along. We are sure the workshop will make all the difference."
