Tongwynlais strengthen Bond link with CD

Albert Hall qualifiers to strengthen their musical link to their Resident Conductor and Composer in Residence with new CD.

Christopher Bond

Following their recent Royal Albert Hall National Final qualification, Tongwynlais Temperance has announced that it is to undertake a collaborative CD recording with conductor and Composer in Residence, Christopher Bond.

The CD will feature not only his brass band music, but also works for chamber groups and soloists. KMJ Recordings will oversee the recording process, which will take place in Cardiff.

Invaluable

Christopher told 4BR: “For me, the opportunity to spend time with the band on my music, as well as a couple of other smaller groups and soloists, is invaluable.

I’m really looking forward to producing something which represents me, my music and my work, much of which encompasses a huge variety of styles and collection of ideas.”

It’s hugely exciting to work alongside Christopher, and the band is looking forward to being able to perform and record his musicTongwynlais Temperance Band

Hugely exciting

A Tongwynlais spokesperson added: “It’s great for the band to be involved in a project like this. It’s hugely exciting to work alongside Christopher, and the band is looking forward to being able to perform and record his music.”

The recording will also include his critically acclaimed horn concerto ‘Bestowal of a Century’, written for and commissioned by Lowenna Taylor, and premiered last year by her and the Cornwall Youth Band, as well as his ‘Fanfare for a Nation’, ‘A New Dawn’, the trombone quartet, ‘Spiral Dreams’ and the euphonium quartet ‘Islands in the Sky’.

Lucky

Lowenna told 4BR: “I’m so lucky to be able to continue working with Christopher on this fantastic concerto and to be able to record it with a terrific band like Tongwynlais.”
