Skelmersdale Prize Band has announced the appointment of Karl Stott (left) as their new Musical Director.

The Salford University conducting graduate brings a wealth of playing and conducting experience to the North West Fourth Section National Finalists, having been a player at Northop Silver and conductor at Greenalls Band.

Post break opportunity

After taking a break from banding in 2012 and having just completed his Primary PGCE at Edge Hill University, he has taken the opportunity to link up with Skelmersdale.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "We would like to wish Karl success and enjoyment with the organisation, in what is sure to be an exciting new era for all.

We would also like to take the opportunity to send our thanks to MD Dave Chapman, who is leaving the band along with his partner and soprano cornet Jemma Gaskell, to take an exciting career move to a new job in Mexico."

The band would like to send their best wishes to both Karl and Dave, and wish them the best of success in their new respective rolesBand spokesperson

Success

They added: "Since taking on the role as MD in 2011, having previously been a player since 2000, Dave helped the band to grow in confidence and achieve impressive contest results.

Recent success has been immense — topped by qualification for the National Finals in Cheltenham later this year.

The band would like to send their best wishes to both Karl and Dave, and wish them the best of success in their new respective roles."
