Skelmersdale look forward with local expertise

The recent appointment of MD James Hall has brought a great deal of locally led optimism for Skelmersdale Prize Band.

Skelmersdale Prize Band is looking forward to the 2017 season after enjoying a productive start to their new musical partnership with MD James Hall (above).

Studies

The local lad is a former trombonist with St Helens Youth Band and the Lancashire Youth Symphony Orchestra, where he gained valuable experience, whilst he completed his degree studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and Masters at the Royal Northern College of Music.

He was also a recipient of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble prize in 2015 as part of the quintet Lowry Brass, who have been featured on BBC Radio 4.

Local knowledge

Band spokesperson Andrew Maguire told 4BR: "As the Musical Director of St Helens Youth Brass Band, where he played whilst learning, and working for Lancashire and St Helens Music Services as a part of their peripatetic and workshop team, we are sure that all his local knowledge and expertise will be of huge benefit as part of our banding family in the future."
