Houlding prepares for final Brum baton

Chris Houlding will be making his final conducting appearance as Head of Brass at one of the first brass band concerts at the new concert hall of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Chris Houlding, Head of Brass at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, will undertake his final appearance in the role this Thursday.

Virtuosi GUS

He will conduct the reigning Midlands Regional Champion Virtuosi GUS in a concert entitled 'That's Entertainment', conceived and organised by fourth year tuba student Luke Atkinson as part of his final year undergraduate degree.

Chris will now concentrate on his musical commitments in Europe, although he will return in May to conduct the RBC Pops Orchestra.

First and last

The concert, one of the first at the brand new RBC Concert Hall, will also feature the RBC Brass Band under Ian Porthouse with works such as Philip Sparke's, 'London Overture' and 'The Year of the Dragon' together with soloists Wilson Taylor, Chris Jeans, Ryan Richards, Matt White and Luke himself.
