Alan Gifford takes over the solo trombone role from Chris Jeans

The GUS Band has announced the signing of Alan Gifford as their new solo trombone player.

The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire graduate joins following a successful six year stint with the Staffordshire Band and then Flowers while completing his studies in Birmingham. Alan started out at Amington Band where he is now Musical Director.

Delighted

Having made his contest debut at the National Finals in October, Alan told 4BR that he was delighted to make the move on a permanent basis.

"It's great to take on the role having taken an interest in the band and their successes for many years. On a personal note, it's a privilege to take over the role held by Chris Jeans but also to now play under his Musical Direction.

The band has an exciting future ahead and I look forward to being part of it."

The band's 2020 season starts at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships in Skegness in January.
