End of era at Newhall

After almost eight years at the helm, MD Mark Phillips has stepped down.

Mark Phillips

After almost 8 years of conducting Newhall Band, Musical Director Mark Phillips has decided to step down.

Mark told 4BR that there were several reasons for this, one of which was the approximate 100 mile round trip to rehearsals (sometimes 4 times a week)! This also means that Joshua Phillips,(Marks son), the bands 2nd horn player, has also left the band.

Although in some ways I am sorry to be leaving the band, I believe the time is right for someone new with fresh ideas to take the band forward into 2008Mark Phillips

Enhanced reputation

During his time at Newhall, the band has enhanced its reputation as one of the most entertaining concert bands in the area, has recorded its first CD and acheived promotion to the 3rd section.

Sorry to leave

Mark said: "Although in some ways I am sorry to be leaving the band, I believe the time is right for someone new with fresh ideas to take the band forward into 2008."

Marks banding will continue as he is solo horn player, and Joshua is 2nd horn player with the Wellington (Telford) Band.
