Burbage in the money

Burbage (Buxton) Band gain nearly 9 grand from the lottery.

Burbage

The members of the Burbage (Buxton) band are smiling as they have been
awarded a very generous £8,895 by the 'Awards For All' local groups lottery fund.

Earmarked

The money has been ear marked by the band for the purchase of a new
Eb and a new Bb Tuba.

The band, who are well known in their area for a highly successful policy of teaching young players, intends that the new instruments will help the senior band, and the old instruments from the seniors will be passed down to assist bass players learning with the Burbage Junior Band.

This funding from the Awards for All people is a very welcome boost, helping both our senior and junior bands, as well as being a nice public recognition...Steve Critchlow

Purpose built

Musical Director Steve Critchlow told 4BR: "For years now the band has
been pumping all its funds into raising money for a new band room. That project was completed this year and we have a beautiful new purpose built facility, but as a result we have been not able to make the investment in instruments we would wish to for some time."

Welcome boost

He added: "This funding from the Awards for All people is a very welcome boost, helping both our senior and junior bands, as well as being a nice public recognition of the success the band has had working in our local community teaching music and helping other charities with fund raising concerts."
