Alder Valley generosity helps local hospice

The hard working players of Alder Valley have helped a wonderful hospice thanks to their Christmas carolling work.

Alder Valley

The hard work and generosity of the players of Alder Valley Brass has enabled the London & Southern Counties Area Championship Section band to present a cheque for £1000 to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Rain and cold

The cheque was presented to Gemma Craig, Community Fundraiser for the hospice in Farnham, Surrey after the players performed carols during December in the rain and cold at twelve locations in Surrey and Hampshire.

Three members of the band committee went along to the Hospice recently to meet with Gemma, who spent some of her precious time showing them around.

Haven of tranquillity

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "The Hospice is a haven of tranquillity and it was obvious that funding is constantly needed in order for the high standards of care to be met.

The donation was 50% of the total money collected, with the band using its share to help purchase new instruments in the near future."
