Brighouse stars help the Northern Ireland stars of tomorrow

Today's Brighouse & Rastrick stars have done their brilliant bit to inspire the Northern Ireland stars of tomorrow.

Wellington
The young members of Wellington and other local bands enjoyed the help from Brighouse & Rastrick stars.

Wellington Memorial Silver Band recently hosted a successful day for junior players who will no doubt become the future stars of Northern Ireland brass banding.

The event was a continuation of previous events where young players from Wellington Memorial, Dungannon, Tamlaghmore and Poyntzpass Silver Bands have enjoyed a day of tuition from star players — this year from Brighouse & Rastrick Band.

With Wellington currently conducted by Gary Proctor, who played BBb tuba with Brighouse, he extended an invitation to the Yorkshire band, with Mike Eccles, Sheona Wade, Dominic Longhurst and Ryan Watkins making the trip.

Brighouse quartet

The quartet made the long journey through the County Down countryside to Raffrey where they spent the afternoon instructing different sections of the band.
Later, the youngsters were well prepared to deliver an evening concert to a full house where they had the opportunity to demonstrate their talents.

The audience was treated to an excellent programme performed by the youth band as well as a performance by the Brighouse quartet who wowed the audience and inspired the children.

Gratitude

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We would like to express our gratitude to the Brighouse & Rastrick players for giving up their time to inspire the youngsters.

The children really enjoyed the experience and gained a lot of confidence from the encouragement they received.

We also wish to thank all those who helped during the day and especially David Leonard from all the bands involved. His contribution made the event such a success."
