Pussies and Strippers for Miles

St Kilda Brass Musical Director,Steve Miles has some exciting plans for the remainder of 2008 which have led him in a very different direction from the day to day running of brass bands.

Steve Miles

Steve has taken on the Musical Directors role for 2 Broadway shows; Andrew Lloyd Weber’s showpiece ‘Cats’ and the American adaptation of ‘The Full Monty.’

The 2 seasons run almost back to back with ‘Cats’ closing mid September and ‘The Full Monty’ opening in October.

Enjoyable and Exciting

Steve Miles said, "The experience so far as been very enjoyable. Working with singers is quite a new experience for me and it is all very exciting."

"We have a fantastic cast to work with which has made my job considerably easier and I must admit that the variety and contrast involved in such a huge production, both musically and visually, has been a breath of fresh air."

The Full Monty

I’m looking forward to ‘Monty’ very much as the score is quite different in comparison to Andrew Lloyd Weber’s music. I’m not really all that keen to have the closest view in the house to the naked men though!!!Steve Miles

Australian company Epiphany Productions is producing ‘The Full Monty’ and has an ambitious rehearsal period to look forward to having only 6 weeks to prepare the show.

"I’m looking forward to ‘Monty’ very much as the score is quite different in comparison to Andrew Lloyd Weber’s music. I’m not really all that keen to have the closest view in the house to the naked men though!!!"

Business as usual for the Saints

Meanwhile it is business as usual for St Kilda Brass who continue their 2008 subscription series of concerts this weekend under Guest Conductor Holly Mathieson.

Entitled ‘Brass Night at the Proms’ and featuring Guest soloist Mezzo Soprano Claire Barton the concert will feature Karl Jenkins The Armed Man, William Walton’s Battle of Britain Suite, Peter Grahams Gaelforce and of course all the usual Proms classics.

The concert will be held at Dunedin’s Glenroy Auditorium on Saturday night (16th August) before repeating the performance in Cromwell, Central Otago on 23rd August.
