Dyke sell out...

Not a single space to be had in Ipswich recently for the visit of Black Dyke.

Black Dyke

The 'sold out' signs went up for Black Dyke Band's recent concert in Ipswich.

Three year return

Returning to the town after three years at the invitation of the Ipswich Charity Concert Committee, almost 900 people enjoyed the band's performance at the Corn Exchange under associate conductor Philip Wilby.

Vienna

For the banders in the audience the conclusion of the first half was a special moment with Philip Wilby introducing and conducting his own 'Vienna Nights'.

On a lighter vein, 'Kings of Cool' — a Rat Pack tribute — was especially well received, but audience appreciation ratched up a notch higher for Richard Marshall's performance of the cornet solo, 'Willow Echoes'.

Rare reaction

"Rarely have I heard and seen such a reaction to a soloist who must rank as the finest cornet player in the world", said organising secretary Tim Mutum to 4BR, adding, "...and this concert shows that after 20 years the thirst for quality brass band performances in Ipswich has not diminished."

2010 plans

Plans are already in place for 2010, including a first visit to Ipswich for the Cory Band.

In the meantime the £1,800 raised from the visit of the National Champions will be distributed to Cancer Research UK and the Ipswich Hospital Ear, Nose and Throat Equipment Fund.

The total raised for charity from these popular concerts is now over £60,000.
