Windcorp Results: 2009 Swedish National Championship

11-Nov-2009
Windcorp Brass and Garry Cutt take Swedish title.

The Swedish National Brass Band Championships took place on the weekend of November 6th/7th where Windcorp Brass Band conducted by Garry Cutt retained their title over the two legged disciplines of set work and own choice selection.

Solid performance

On Friday night, Windcorp produced a solid performance of the set test piece 'Gothic Dances' by Alan Fernie, which gave them a narrow one point lead over Stockholm Brass to take into the own choice selections the next day.

Rococo

There, their performance of 'Rococo Variations' by Edward Gregson managed to satisfy the adjudicators resulting in them taking the title by a wide five point margin ahead of Stockholm with Solna Brass in third.

Happy

Foden’s MD Gary Cutt, who directed the band to the win, was very happy with his first Swedish title. Together with partner Lucy Murphy from the Fairy Band he has enjoyed two intensive weekends of band rehearsals preceding the contest.

Gary Cutt also received the conductor’s prize for the best performance of the test piece.

'The relationship between Gary and WBB has been truly successful for both parties, and with Windcorp Gary is the "100 % man" after winning two contests on two attempts'

100%

A spokesperson for Windcorp told 4BR: "The relationship between Gary and WBB has been truly successful for both parties, and with Windcorp Gary is the "100 % man" after winning two contests on two attempts."

As there is a delay in the Swedish qualification process for the European Championships, this win entitles Windcorp Brass Band to attend the Europeans in 2011 in Montreux, Switzerland.
