Derwent say goodbye
26-Feb-2010Derwent Brass has recently said its farewells to a great bandsman
The funeral of Dougie Sheldon, a former member of Derwent Brass recently took place.
Dougie was a founder member of the Derbyshire based band and played baritone before retiring, although he stayed on and acted as librarian and handyman.
Dougie was sent off with the sound of Melbourne Band which he was also involved with. Dougie will be remembered as a very sweet man who would turn his hand at anything if it helped the band. He will be missed by all who had the luck to meet him.

The evening raised over £800, and the band and choir gave varied programmes for cater for all tastes, including Derwent playing 'Walking with Heroes' and 'The Great Redeemer' alongside 'Another Fine Mess' and Adam Rutter giving a shining performance of euphonium solo '‘Neath Dublin Skies'.
Tragic
Tragically, one of the guards from Derbyshire had been killed in action that same week. The moment was marked by a minute's silence, followed by 'The Last Post' played by principal cornet David Neville.
