Despite the rival attraction of England playing Germany in the World Cup in South Africa at the same time on Sunday, there was still plenty to enjoy at the 4th Ireland Colliery (Chesterfield) Battle of the Bands contest.

Good form

In the end it was Dronfield CMW who came out on top under conductor John Davis, to maintain their good 2010 form and walk away with the £400 top prize, as well as pick up the prizes for deportment and entertainment and the 'Bands Rep' prize.

Long Eaton picked up £200 in second place, thanks to solo prize winner Melissa Ramplin's fine contribution, whilst Newhall took third and the £100 on offer.
