Saturday 10th of July saw a rejuvenated Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band march to victory under the leadership of MD David Nesbitt at Old Silkstone Band’s 9th Annual Hymn Tune & March contest.

Impressive haul

The band finished the day with an impressive haul of silverware to go with the £495 prize money taking home the Alberta Manttan Memorial Trophy as overall champions.

Playing Roy Newsome’s arrangement of ‘Deep Harmony’ along with Rimmer’s ‘Honest Toil’ Imps managed to beat off competition from favourites Skelmanthorpe and Hebden Bridge.

Awards

At the Red Lion contest, adjudicator Brian Rostron awarded the ‘Best Euphonium’ prize to Imps star Adrian Nurney as well as picking the band’s basses out for their individual award.

The band took the prize for best march at both there and at Silkstone Lodge, where Roger Webster also picked out the bass section again for that special prize winning mention. The band also won the prize for the ‘Best Hymn Tune’.

The combined results from both venues saw Yorkshire Imps overall winners of the day and pick up £490.00 in prize money.
