King's Titan visit to Windcorp

The Windcorp Band in Sweden has just enjoyed a visit from Professor David King to work on Hermann Pallhuber's 'Titan's Progress'.

King

The Windcorp Band in Sweden recently enjoyed a visit by Professor David King, where the Australian put the band through extensive rehearsals on Hermann Pallhuber’s ‘Titan’s Progress’.

Composer in attendance

The composer was also in attendance in what he later described as a 'perfect musical triangle' as he was able to sit back and enjoy the Brighouse & Rastrick MD work on the piece over 16 hours of rehearsal over four days.

The approach that David King took to the piece was very appreciated and made me think I didn't know I had written those things!Hermann Pallhuber

Appreciated

He later added: "The approach that David King took to the piece was very appreciated and made me think I didn't know I had written those things! I fully appreciated the Scandinavian open-mindness where the conductor could bring out the music with full freedom from the band."

The visit was brought to a close with a highly enjoyable concert for over 300 people who were treated to David King not just conducting but also displaying his talents as a cornet soloist.

Anniversary

The Windcorp Conductor in Residence Andreas Kratz then took the band through some concert repertoire, including the Leslie Condon march 'Celebration', which marked the band's fifth anniversary.

The second half was led by David King and contained a riveting performance of 'Titan's Progress', as well as a performance of 'Red Machine' by David’s former collegue at Salford University, Peter Graham.
