Legacy of brass in Ostend

The European Championships in Ostend have given the world something not even Liverpool or Beijing managed...

Kursaal

It appears that the European Brass Band Championships have created something in Ostend that neither the city of Liverpool or Beijing was able to achieve after hosting their major cultural and sporting events in recent years – a lasting legacy of participation.

Promise

The current 2012 Olympics buzzword is seen by many to be nothing but meaningless PR, but after hosting the 2009 European Brass Band Championships, Ostend has lived up to its promise and is hosting a second series of 'Brass Band Outdoor' events that proved so popular two years ago.

Smaller version

'Brass Band Outdoor' was a brass band festival, that featured a series of free outdoor concerts throughout the city, and on the weekend of the 18th/19th September a smaller version of the event will take place again.

Higher and Lower

There will be free concerts at three different venues and the bands will include well known local higher section outfits as well as lower section ensembles.

Those taking part are bands from Condor, Cecilia Bovekerke, United Brass, Retie, Kapelle op den Bos and Metropole on the Saturday, and Scaldis, Kortrijk, Leieland, Gent and Bravour on the Sunday – both days starting at 11.30am.
