Elland round off busy year

The Elland Silver organisation has just rounded off a very busy but memorable year.

Elland Silver Youth Band led by MD Samantha Harrison has just rounded off its busy year by performing two Christmas Carol Concerts at Halifax Minster on Christmas Eve.

Titles

A year, which has seen the band claim two National titles and a total of 16 trophies, is probably one of the most significant in the bands long history, with performances at numerous prestigious venues, and on many occasions with many of the banding worlds top ensembles.

The senior Elland Silver Band has also had an excellent year helping to raise much needed funds for a number of charities, whilst their latest CD release, 'Breezin Down Broadway’, has already begun to sell well.

The year was also made special by the presentation of The Queens Award for Voluntary Service — the MBE for Voluntary Groups4BR

Special presentation

The year was also made special by the presentation of The Queens Award for Voluntary Service — the MBE for Voluntary Groups. James Shepherd, Samantha Harrison, Kathleen Harrison and Kenneth Billington travelled to London in July to a Queens Garden Party at Buckingham Palace to receive the award.

Meanwhile, Sam was presented with Calderdale Councils ‘Good Citizen’ award at a dinner and council meeting at Halifax Town Hall in early December, becoming the third generation family member to receive the recognition.

New signings

Samantha was recently presented with a special award celebrating 25 years service to the Elland organisation, whilst the desire to continue the band’s success was shown with the signing of new players Janet Wiffen, Janice Davison, Jane Klevnow and Lyndon Beeby as well as player promotions to Bethan Plant and William Spencer.
