Cutt returns to Grimethorpe

Garry Cutt returns to Grimethorpe to spearhead Open assault.

Grimethorpe

4BR has exclusively been informed that Garry Cutt has returned to Grimethorpe to take the band to the British Open at Symphony Hall in September.

Further boost

Band spokesperson Gareth Crane confirmed the news when speaking to 4BR: "We are delighted that Garry has accepted our invitation to direct us at the British Open and the following day’s concert at Symphony Hall.

We have enjoyed a long and very successful association with him over the years and this is a further boost to the band at a very exciting time."

Rewards

That association has reaped no less than six Brass in Concert titles as well as podium finishes at the British Open, recordings and high profile concerts all over the world.

Changes

Meanwhile, with an Australian tour in a couple of months time to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the iconic ‘Brassed Off’ film, Grimethorpe has undergone a number of organisational changes to reflect their desire to return to the very top of world banding, as Gareth explained.

"We have implemented changes and the benefits are already being felt. The tour promises to a huge success, we have an anniversary CD release to coincide with the trip, and have a number of new projects on the go to reflect our position as the leading entertainment band in the world."

He added: “The work rate in the bandroom is second to none, and with Garry back, we have seen a huge boost in confidence. On our return from Australia, we will be working hard with him for the British Open, where we are determined to regain a title that has been missing from our trophy cabinet for far too long.”

Fantastic player

With player rumours also a constant source of speculation at Grimethorpe, Gareth also revealed that after two years with the band, Gary MacPhee has taken the difficult decision to leave following an increase in his professional playing commitments.

"We are sorry to see Gary go, but the good news is that through his association with the band he has been able to gain wider exposure in the professional orchestral ranks. He’s fantastic player and we wish him well.

We haven’t appointed a replacement yet, but as always, interest in coming to the band has been high."
