New conducting team at Grimethorpe

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced its new conducting team for 2012.

New trio

Garry Cutt and Sandy smith have accepted invitations to work alongside Resident Conductor Brian Grant to form a new conducting trio, with Garry taking the role as Professional Conductor for contest appearances.

Meanwhile, Sandy will become Associate Conductor and Arranger.

Confident

Speaking of his new role Garry told 4BR: "It’s a great pleasure to accept the invitation to return to become part of the team at Grimethorpe as Professional Conductor. In my new role I will be responsible for the band’s contest performances."

He added: "I’m confident it will be a great team, working closely with Brian and Sandy, who was so instrumental in our hat-trick wins at Brass in Concert between 2001 and 2003.”

Meanwhile, Sandy added: "This is a great opportunity to work with a forward thinking band on some exciting collaborations and musical projects, as well as keeping the name of Grimethorpe at the very forefront of brass entertainment."

Band Spokesperson Gareth Crane added: "We felt as a band that undertakes over 60 concerts a year, plus contests, recordings and tours that it is was too much for one person to take on.
