Former Black Dyke solo horn player Arfon Owen has joined the stable of world class Yamaha Neo performers.

One of the banding movement’s finest tenor horn players has joined the Yamaha stable of high profile performers and will now play on the world beating Yamaha Neo instrument.

Outstanding

A Yamaha spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to announce that the outstanding multi-instrumentalist has joined the Yamaha family after selecting the Neo Tenor Horn (YAH-803S) as his instrument of choice."

Having been a leading exponent of the instrument from the age of 18, over the last decade or more Arfon has also played in many of the world’s finest brass ensembles.

He has performed at a host of iconic musical venues around the globe, whilst away from the concert and contest platform has gained a highly respected reputation as a solo recording performer to add to his extensive CV of broadcast work for television and radio.

Unrivalled versatility

Arfon currently lives and works professionally in Stavanger, Norway, and is a member of the Stavanger Band as well as working professionally as a leading session musician, conductor and educator.

The Yamaha spokesperson added: "Arfon is a musician of unrivalled versatility — and a wonderful performer not just on tenor horn, but also cornet, trumpet, flugel horn, French horn piano and organ.

Yamaha strives to help performers find an instrument that allows them to express their musical ideas to the full. Arfon is an outstanding musician and we’re thrilled to be able to work with someone of his musical calibre."

Delighted

Arfon is also delighted to be joining Yamaha, as he told 4BR: "As a tenor horn player, you strive to produce the warm, vibrant sound that is essential character of the instrument.

The time put into the development of the Neo's design allows me to reach the instrument’s full potential — in terms of tone quality and range, especially with the heavy technical demands that are asked of brass band players by composers and arrangers."

Joy

He added: "Above everything though, the Yamaha Neo is an absolute joy to play. I can rely on it to perform every time is comes of out of the case, which allows me to just get on with what I love — making music."
