Heritage exposure for young Welsh composer

The music of young welsh composer, David Rees, has been gaining increasing exposure over the past few months.

Heritage

Last summer, he wrote a piece called ‘Heritage’ for Abertillery Town Band to open their contest programme at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, and the work was subsequently used as backing music for one of the daily S4C TV highlight programmes from the televised event.

The work was later performed at the opening of the newly refurbished Newbridge Memorial Hall in the presence of HRH Prince Charles, and again for the BBC Wales television series ‘Heritage’ which featured actor Michael Sheen retracing the steps of the Welsh Chartist movement.

Cap it off

To cap things off the piece was aired once more on St David’s Day in a joint performance by the Newbridge Celynen and Abertillery Bands.

Fantastic reception

David told 4BR: “The reception ‘Heritage’ has been receiving from bands and audience alike has been fantastic. Getting it performed on television has been a huge boost.”

He added: “Events such as the recent Memorial Hall opening have helped remind me of the joy that music brings to people, and having my own composition involved has been a massive source of pride and happiness.”
