New annual prize to honour a great local musician

The memory of the great Charlie Taylor is to be honoured by a fantastic new annual award at Fred Longworth High School.

Charlie Taylor

Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley, Manchester will be ensuring that future generations of youngsters will not forget the wonderful contribution made to their musical education by the late Charlie Taylor (right).

Charlie died earlier this year but for many years ran the school band and taught pupils every Wednesday evening at the High School.

Annual Award

Now an annual award will be made in his name which will enable one lucky student to have their music tuition paid for. The 'Charlie Taylor' award will be presented to the student achieving the highest marks in their GCSE Music examination and will be made by the Head of Music, Helen Robinson.

Passion for teaching

Tracey Ball, Arts Faculty Administrator told 4BR: "It is our way of ensuring that Charlie will be remembered each and every year at Fred Longworth High School."

Rick Asbury, Head of Expressive Arts, added: "Charlie had a passion for teaching and for musical potential. His strong spirit motivated and captured imaginations, kept children safe, made them into great musicians and even kept one or two out of real trouble!"

His spirit will live on forever in the lives and music of all those who he worked with, mentored and befriendedRick Asbury, Head of Expressive Arts

Loyalty and respect

He added: "His patience and love of music were both infinite. His calm spirit and sense of humour, coupled with his musicianship, meant he had the loyalty and respect of all those who knew him either as a friend, a band member or a student.

His spirit will live on forever in the lives and music of all those who he worked with, mentored and befriended."
