Stalham and Stretton inspire young musicians

35 lucky young players have been given a great starter boost thanks to Stalham Brass and James Stretton.

sTALHAM

Young musicians from schools in the Stalham area in north-Norfolk have been enjoying a special brass band week.

35 youngsters and their tutors took part in a special weekend masterclass as well as giving concerts to other school children and parents in the area. The special events formed part of a unique training scheme run by Stalham Band under Director of Music Tim Thirst.

Free loan

Youngsters receive the free loan of an instrument, free tuition in and out of school time, as well as being able to take part in special events. The scheme is backed by local and national bodies including the Andrew Lloyd Webber foundation and Brass Bands England.

Long service

During a recent concert at Ludham Primary School, seven trainees who now play with the main band were presented with long-service awards, whilst a great fun-filled masterclass, led by former Grimethorpe Colliery and Black Dyke player, James Stretton, saw starter players able to perform on a range of instruments ranging from antique horns to modern plastic trombones (above).
