Lone Wolf options taken up

Bands performing Simon Dobson's 'Journey of the Lone Wolf' need to make sure they have got their right options.

4BR has been informed that following dialogue with composer Simon Dobson, the Music Selection Panel of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain have decided that bands may play the optional percussion part 3 of the top section set-work, 'Journey of the Lone Wolf'.

The adjudicators will be informed of this decision and that either performance option is equally allowable.

During 'Night Music', Percussion 2 is instructed to play a backing track (manipulated samples of bowed crotales and nature sounds) from a CD player linked to speakers. This is to add atmosphere and a sense of physical space during the flugel horn solo. The CD is provided with the performing material.

Performance note

Minor revisions have also been undertaken to the cornet, horn and baritone parts in the last four bars of the work.

Any band that has purchased the 2014 publication should email Kapitol Promotions on kapitol@btconnect.com, and alternative material, including percussion, will be supplied by the publisher.

To avoid confusion with the first print, the 2016 publication is presented with new cover image of a statue of Bela Bartok, which is located at South Kensington Station, a short walk from the Royal Albert Hall.
