70 years of banding service? It was a Breeze

Newtown Silver Band honour Alan Breeze after he notches up 70 years of unbroken service to the mid Wales band.

Newtown
70 years of remarkable service has been notched up by Alan Breeze and his wife Margaret

Newtown Silver Band recently held a surprise presentation evening to honour one of their longest serving members.

Alan Breeze joined the band in 1947 and has since clocked up an incredible 70 years of loyal service as a player and committee member.

Having returned from the armed forces, his first competition was in 1950, and he soon became known as a highly respected soprano player. He went on to play in no less than six National Finals.

Journey

During the evening, the current band under MD Steve Edwards took everyone on a 70 year journey, with appropriate music from each decade and a series of slides and narration.

Band President Helen Bennet introduced the musical items and presented Alan with a trophy in recognition and appreciation of his amazing achievement. Tributes were also received from Beaumaris, Cory and Black Dyke Bands.

He is a truly dedicated, committed and loyal bandsman, much loved and respected by allBand Chairman, David Evans

Inspiration

Band Chairman, David Evans told 4BR: "70 years service is a remarkable achievement. Alan never fails to turn up for rehearsals or engagements and has missed only one competition due to illness. He always sets an example and is such an inspiration to all at Newtown Band.

He is a truly dedicated, committed and loyal bandsman, much loved and respected by all."

Wonderful support

During the evening, flowers were presented to Alan's wife Margaret, who has also been a terrific support and past member of the band, whilst good wishes were expressed for their forthcoming 60th wedding anniversary.
