Fodens Whit delight

They may not have won at Cambridge, but Fodens rewrote the record books on Whit Friday.

Fodens

The Fodens Richardson band have announced their delight after making history by becoming the Whit Friday (Tameside) Champions for the 7th consecutive year.

Prizes

The Sandbach based band, conducted by Garry Cutt, started the night early at 4.30pm with a solid performance at Hurst Cross.

Foden’s then went on to perform at 10 competitions during the night in which the band walked away with a prize at every venue it played.

Six firsts

The band not only gained an astonishing 6 first prizes but also picked up two 2nds and a 3rd in the Tameside area as well as a token 2nd place under the flood-lit and slightly boggy field at Scoutshead.

...the band really pulled out all the stops when it came to the playing and we are delighted to have made another bit of history this year and we would like to thank all our supporters as well as our MD, Gary CuttChairman, John Barber

Cricket and curry

Whilst retaining its title in fine form for the seventh time in 7 years, members of the band also found the time to indulge in the culinary delights of the curry house at Stalybridge Celtic as well as partaking in an inter-band cricket match along the way!

Fantastic evening

Chairman John Barber told 4BR: "It was a fantastic evening. Everyone was in good spirits and the night was relaxed and enjoyable. Saying that, the band really pulled out all the stops when it came to the playing and we are delighted to have made another bit of history this year and we would like to thank all our supporters as well as our MD, Gary Cutt."

Second record

It’s the second time this year that Fodens have rewritten the record books after their success at this years Area Championship saw them overtake CWS (Manchester) as the most successful band in the Area’s history.

Champers

Mark Wilkinson told 4BR that those two achievements have been recognised by their loyal supporters: "Fodens have always had fantastic support from the local community and in particular, its patrons. Loyal Foden’s supporter Stephen Sabeer has very kindly donated several bottles of Champagne to the band in light of its recent achievements and the band is extremely grateful for this wonderful gesture."
