Parliament set to debate brass bands

Forget petrol prices, at 10.00pm tonight Parliament is set to debate brass bands!

Over the past few weeks Philip Watson, Development Officer of the British Federation of Brass Bands (BFBB) has been working with Jeff Ennis, MP for Barnsley East and Mexborough, attending many meetings in London with various representatives from Parliament and the Arts Council.

Helper organisation

A meeting on 9th July at the Houses of Parliament saw Philip and Jeff Ennis meet up with Mr. P. Wanless, Chief Executive, Big Lottery Fund and Mr. S. Walsh, Head of Public Affairs, Big Lottery Fund. It is hoped that the BFBB will become a “helper organisation” for bands wishing to access funds.

An adjournment debate on brass bands will take place at 10.00pm tonight in Parliament, when MP’s will have the opportunity to discuss brass bands and their importance to the arts and society4BR

Parliamentary Brass Band Group

Mr. Ennis has also been successful in setting up a Parliamentary Brass Band Group consisting of many distinguished members of both Houses. The first meeting was held on 8th July at the Houses of Parliament and the BFBB will act as secretariat for the group.

Debate

An adjournment debate on brass bands will take place at 10.00pm tonight in Parliament, when MP’s will have the opportunity to discuss brass bands and their importance to the arts and society.

The debate can be viewed on the Freeview Parliamentary Channel.
