Double success for Staines
25-Sep-2008There has been a dose of double delight for Staines of late.
Last Sunday saw both Staines Brass and their sister band, the Staines Lammas Band take the contest stage - Staines Brass at the Wychavon contest and the Staines Lammas Band at Challenging Brass held in Addlestone, Surrey.
Return
Other than the regional qualifiers this is the first contest Staines Brass have entered in over two years and gained a merited third place.
The band has worked extremely hard recently with the third place Allen Geare Cup presented to Bob Howell, a long serving member and trustee of the band.
~ Bob Howell, Staines Brass
Honoured
Bob told 4BR: "I was very honoured to accept the cup on the bands behalf and the future seems to be looking more positive after a difficult couple of years."
Hat trick miss
Meanwhile, the Staines Lammas Band were competing at Challenging Brass, a friendly contest for four local non-contesting bands held each year at the Addlestone Community Centre.
The band was aiming for a hat-trick of wins after taking the top spot in 2006 and 2007. The band just missed out on their third successive win taking second place, but still a remarkable achievement none the less.
